What’s it all about?
The Wonder of Wood is Cambridge’s FIRST EVER wood fair. Organised by Bex, Tim and Duncan, a trio of parents and wood-based business owners, the ethos of the show is to introduce children to the joys of engaging with nature, and to entice them away from screen time and back into the great outdoors.
From willow weaving to pyrography, den building and tree climbing to spoon carving, and survival skills to tree surgery (plus plenty more!) this is a great weekend out.
Get the children involved in the many woodland activities that will be on offer such as survival skills, tree climbing and Dutch arrow making, find out more about the magical fenland wildlife, and listen to captivating stories from our storyteller. There will be plenty of opportunity to marvel at wood workers creating things of beauty in front of your very eyes, and you can even try your hand at these wonderful crafts yourself as we encourage all stall holders to offer a wood-based activity so you can get hands on.
You can also get some advice on top fruit growing as we have trees and bushes for sale from Andy Howard of the Heritage Fruit Tree Co. Not only this, but there will be locally produced food and drink on hand to ensure you don’t go hungry or thirsty, as well as live music from local folk musicians.
BUT WE ARE MORE THAN JUST A COUNTRY SHOW…
The importance of getting children into the great outdoors is greater than ever. The wonderful woodworkers at our show don’t just showcase their wares; they encourage children (and adults alike!) to get hands on with their crafts. The Wonder of Wood represents an important departure from screen time, plunging children into activities like woodworking, willow weaving, sculpting, and more, fostering skills that stay forever.
We hope to inspire a new generation of children to get back into woodworking and traditional crafts.
